Short answer: not in the base plan. Yes in the version Microsoft started selling on July 1, 2026, called Business Standard with Copilot, which is a separate permanent SKU at $23.50 per user per month.
If you are on Microsoft 365 Business Standard right now and wondering whether Copilot is quietly sitting behind a toggle, it is not. The base plan has never included Copilot. What changed on July 1 is that Microsoft made the bundled version a permanent product rather than a countdown-clock promotion.
The three-second version
Microsoft 365 Business Standard is $12.50 per user per month. It gives you Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. It does not give you Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot is $23.50 per user per month. It gives you all of the above, plus Copilot in each of those apps. Same Office suite, plus the AI, at an $11 uplift.
That eleven dollar delta is the answer to the whole question. If you want Copilot on your Business Standard seats, you move to the new bundled SKU. If you do not, you stay put.
Do you have to upgrade every seat?
No. Microsoft sells this per seat, so you can move part of your team to the bundled version and leave the rest on plain Business Standard. That flexibility matters more than most people realize when they first read the price. The right question is not "should we get Copilot?" It is "which of our people would actually use it, and are we willing to pay $11 more per month per seat for them to have it?"
If you have twenty seats and five of them are people who write, plan, or synthesize documents all day, buying five bundled seats and leaving fifteen alone is a real path. You would not do that with device management, but Copilot is a productivity feature that scales per person, not per tenant.
The three ways to actually get Copilot onto a Business Standard tenant
There are three paths, and only one of them is the right answer for most companies right now.
- The direct path. Move the users who want Copilot from Business Standard to Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50 per user per month. Same suite, plus Copilot, permanent SKU. Clean.
- The add-on path. Keep users on plain Business Standard and add Copilot Business as a standalone at $18 per user per month, currently on a 15 percent promo through December 31, 2026. That comes to $30.50 per user per month total, and the price goes up when the promo expires. This is the more expensive path in every scenario except one, which is that you already committed to Business Standard on a long annual and cannot restructure the underlying seats mid-term. If your reseller says the add-on is easier, ask why. In most cases, the bundled SKU is cheaper and cleaner.
- The lighter path. Business Basic with Copilot Business at $21 per user per month, also a promo through December 31, 2026. Business Basic does not include the installed desktop apps, just the web and mobile versions. For users who mostly work in a browser, this can be a fine entry point. For anyone who lives in the installed Word or Excel, it is a downgrade dressed up as a discount.
When you should upgrade past Business Standard entirely
One detail the pricing table hides. Copilot inherits your existing Microsoft 365 permissions. If SharePoint sharing is loose or your labels are stale, Copilot will happily surface things people were not supposed to reach. The moment you turn Copilot on across a real team, identity and data protection stop being an IT nice-to-have.
Business Standard does not carry those controls. Business Premium does. That is why, for organizations that are actually going to use Copilot across the whole team, Business Premium with Copilot at $32 per user per month is usually the right destination, not Business Standard with Copilot.
The mental model: Business Standard with Copilot is fine for a small pilot on a clean tenant. Business Premium with Copilot is what you want if Copilot becomes the way your team searches and drafts every day, because the guardrails come with it.
Bottom line
No, Copilot is not included in base Business Standard. Yes, Copilot is included in the new Business Standard with Copilot SKU at $23.50 per user per month, and that is the right upgrade path if your Copilot pilot is small and your tenant is clean. If you are rolling Copilot out to the whole team, upgrade past Business Standard to Business Premium with Copilot instead. The extra $8.50 per user per month buys you the security baseline that makes Copilot safe to actually use.
